Founding Fathers:
Vaughn Michael

In the fall of 1956, Vaughn Michael, National Vice President of Sigma Theta Epsilon, transferred to West Virginia Wesleyan College to complete his senior year. Through his efforts he was able to interest a group of men into forming a men’s Christian service fraternity. On October 17, 1956, these same men formed the Sigma Theta Epsilon Club. Vaughn then guided the men through a Pledge Period during which they learned about Sigma Theta Epsilon. At National Conclave in Norman, Oklahoma, the club was recognized as a chapter, and on February 23, 1957, the Alpha Gamma Chapter was activated at the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon, West Virginia with the brothers of Mu Chapter in attendance (West Virginia University). Harold Green served as founding president. Through the past 30 years, Alpha Gamma has worked diligently in the three-fold program areas of religion, service, and social activities. Working under the Christian Life Council(CLC) the brothers have been active in many projects with the local Parish House, youth center, and other groups in the community. Because of Alpha Gamma Chapter’s dedication, the distinction of being the oldest continually-active chapter of our National Organization has been bestowed upon us.
